6 Things the Research Says About C15:0 and Metabolic Health
Rated 4.8/5 Stars
"It’s the best supplement I have ever taken."

1. C15:0 Is the Strongest Fatty Acid Predictor of Protected Long-Term Metabolic Health

A major meta-analysis published in Advances in Nutrition evaluated 27 different fatty acids and their associations with metabolic health. Of all 27 fatty acids tested, C15:0 was — by far — the strongest predictor of protected long-term metabolic health.

Specifically, every 0.1% increase in C15:0 levels was associated with a 32% improvement in protected metabolic health.*

What researchers found:*

✔ C15:0 ranked #1 out of 27 fatty acids for protecting metabolic health

✔ Every 0.1% increase in C15:0 was associated with a 32% improvement in protected metabolic health

✔ Findings were assigned the highest Confidence of Evidence category among all fatty acids in this study

2. C15:0 Is Associated with Healthy Insulin Sensitivity & Beta Cell Function

A prospective cohort study from the PROMISE cohort tracked 418 adults over 9 years, measuring insulin sensitivity and beta cell function at four in-depth evaluations, including oral glucose tolerance tests.

Higher C15:0 levels were associated with healthier insulin sensitivity, lower fasting glucose, lower glucose at 120 minutes in a glucose tolerance test, and overall healthier glucose tolerance throughout the study period. Researchers also showed that for every standard deviation increase in C15:0 levels, there was a measurable percentage improvement in both insulin sensitivity and beta cell function.

What researchers found:*

✔ Supported insulin sensitivity over a 9-year follow-up

✔ Supported healthy fasting glucose levels

✔ Supported healthy overall glucose tolerance on testing

3.  C15:0 Activates AMPK & AKT — Key Pathways for Glucose Control

Beyond association, peer-reviewed mechanistic studies have shown how C15:0 directly supports metabolic health at the cellular level.

Researchers demonstrated that C15:0 activates AMPK and AKT — well-established pathways for supporting healthy glucose control and insulin sensitivity.

In cell systems, C15:0 directly supported glucose uptake, insulin sensitivity, and even mimicked insulin in muscle cells.* In a preclinical model, daily C15:0 supplementation supported healthy glucose levels within 12 weeks. Researchers also found that C15:0 lowered SREBP-1 (tied to fat and cholesterol production) and increased PPARα gene activity, which is associated with healthy fatty acid metabolism.

What researchers found:*

✔ Activates AMPK and AKT pathways for glucose control

✔ Directly supports glucose uptake and insulin sensitivity in muscle cells

✔ Supported healthy glucose levels in a preclinical model within 12 weeks

4. Higher C15:0 Levels Are Consistently Associated With Better Metabolic Health Across 16 Cohorts & 12

Applying the Bradford Hill Criteria for Causality  — researchers evaluated 168 peer-reviewed human observational studies on C15:0 and metabolic health, prioritizing five robust, prospective cohort meta-analyses.

The association between higher C15:0 and protected metabolic health was consistent across 16 cohorts and 12 countries, replicated in studies published from 2014 to 2026. Across key quantitative findings, C15:0 had the highest protection of metabolic health compared to six other nutrients and natural compounds tested, including EPA and DHA.

What researchers found:*

✔ Bradford Hill Criteria are met for C15:0 protecting metabolic health

✔ Consistent associated protective effect across 16 cohorts and 12 countries

✔ Highest metabolic health protection score vs. EPA, DHA, and others

5. Every 0.1% Increase in C15:0 Is Associated With Measurably Better Metabolic Protection

Multiple large-scale prospective studies have documented a clear dose-response relationship between C15:0 levels and metabolic health — meaning the higher your C15:0, the greater the associated benefit, up to 0.6%.

Schaefer et al. showed that every 0.1% increase in C15:0 up to 0.6% resulted in a 32% improvement in associated protected metabolic health. Importantly, clinical trials have shown that every 100 mg of pure C15:0 supplementation raises circulating C15:0 levels by approximately 0.1%, meaning the dose-response approach is practically actionable.

What researchers found:*

✔ Clear dose-response: higher C15:0 = greater associated metabolic protection

✔ 32% improvement in associated metabolic health per 0.1% increase in C15:0

✔ Every 100 mg of C15:0 raises circulating levels by ~0.1%

6. Multiple Large Population Studies Continue to Show the Same Result: Higher C15:0, Better Long-Term Metabolic Health

A meta-analysis including 112,193 participants across 34 population studies — spanning the U.S., Europe, Asia, and Australia with median follow-up periods of 3 to 20 years — consistently showed that higher C15:0 was associated with better long-term metabolic health. This finding held whether C15:0 was measured in red blood cell membranes, plasma phospholipids, or plasma.

A separate Asian cohort study following 10,933 people across 10 geographic regions found the same pattern, further supporting that the associated metabolic benefit of C15:0 is not regional — it is global. Population-wide C15:0 levels have been declining as dairy fat consumption has dropped, and researchers are now linking this trend to worsening population metabolic health.

What researchers found:*

✔ Higher C15:0 linked to better long-term metabolic health across 112,193+ participants

✔ Consistent findings across the U.S., Europe, Asia, and Australia

✔ Declining C15:0 levels tracked alongside worsening global metabolic health

Why People Are Paying Attention

The consistency of findings — across 16 cohorts, 12 countries, and more than a decade of prospective research — backs C15:0 as a nutrient that supports long-term metabolic health.*

The lab results are in!!!

I timed taking these 2 months before having blood work so I could compare. My liver enzymes were way off 2 months ago. They have changed dramatically! I am so impressed with Fatty c 15, my A1C also came down. I am on automatic delivery, it has passed my test so I will continue!!!
